We are proud to announce the first investment of C4 Ventures III: Bedrock Robotics - and a particularly meaningful one for us, as it marks our second time backing Boris Sofman and his team. C4 Ventures joins $270 million Series B funding co-led by CapitalG and the Valor Atreides AI Fund.
Founded by former Waymo and Google autonomy leaders, Bedrock Robotics is bringing AI-powered autonomy to heavy construction equipment, starting with excavators. Their technology retrofits existing machines, enabling them to operate autonomously and helping contractors address one of the industry’s biggest challenges: a massive and growing shortage of skilled operators at a time when global infrastructure demand is accelerating.
Construction worldwide faces a structural capacity gap. Bedrock’s approach directly tackles this bottleneck, allowing existing fleets to do more with the teams already in place. This is a powerful example of AI creating impact where work actually happens: in the physical world.
Our long-standing relationship with Boris and the team, first built through our investment in Anki over a decade ago, gave us early access to this opportunity. We are proud to again support a founder we deeply respect as he tackles a market of enormous scale and importance.
Bedrock perfectly reflects C4 Ventures III strategy: backing ambitious founders building category-defining companies where AI meets the physical world.
"I’ve known the C4 Ventures team for over a decade, partnering with them now across two companies. Not only do they bring unparalleled operating experience, strategic intuition, and access to European markets and partners, but I’ve seen them be unwavering partners during both great chapters and tough ones. When the time comes to grow Bedrock into new regions, I'm grateful to know their support and network will be behind us."
