ABOUT BEDROCK

Bedrock Robotics is an autonomous construction technology company working alongside leading general contractors to co-develop autonomous solutions that retrofit machines such as excavators, bulldozers, and loaders. The company’s vision is to make fully autonomous fleets standard on job sites across the country.

Founded in 2024 and headquartered in San Francisco, Bedrock brings state-of-the-art autonomy systems to contractors and job sites across the United States.

The company has raised $350 million in Seed, Series A, and Series B funding.

OUR RELATIONSHIP

Our long-standing relationship with Boris and the team, first built through our investment in Anki over a decade ago, gave us early access to this opportunity. We are proud to again support a founder we deeply respect as he tackles a market of enormous scale and importance.

Bedrock perfectly reflects C4 Ventures III strategy: backing ambitious founders building category-defining companies where AI meets the physical world.

"I’ve known the C4 Ventures team for over a decade, partnering with them now across two companies. Not only do they bring unparalleled operating experience, strategic intuition, and access to European markets and partners, but I’ve seen them be unwavering partners during both great chapters and tough ones. When the time comes to grow Bedrock into new regions, I'm grateful to know their support and network will be behind us."

MISSION

America faces an unprecedented challenge in meeting demand for new infrastructure. Data centers, nearshoring, new energy capacity, and housing shortages all require construction at a pace the industry cannot currently sustain.

Nearly 500,000 construction jobs remain unfilled, and an aging workforce is accelerating the shortage. Project backlogs continue to grow while critical infrastructure projects are delayed. The bottleneck is not materials or capital — it is labor capacity.

By bringing advanced autonomy to construction equipment, Bedrock aims to help contractors deliver projects at greater scale and consistency with the teams they already have. This enables builders to take on more projects, improve safety outcomes, and accelerate delivery of the infrastructure America needs.

TECHNOLOGY

The Bedrock Operator transforms existing construction equipment into fully autonomous fleets through reversible, same-day hardware installations combined with autonomy software that continually improves performance and expands capabilities.

The system integrates comprehensive 360-degree camera coverage with LiDAR to provide a high-fidelity understanding of the work area. Survey-grade IMUs and GPS deliver centimeter-level localization, while LTE antennas keep worksites connected for real-time monitoring. Ruggedized hardware protects all components in harsh environments, while state-of-the-art onboard computing inside the cab acts as the brain of the machine, executing complex autonomy tasks.

Key capabilities

Superhuman safety — Unparalleled visibility around equipment reduces risks and helps ensure more workers return home safely each day.

Environmental understanding — Machines navigate hills, trenches, obstacles, and terrain while shaping land precisely according to defined plans.

Operational precision — Large-scale machine learning models, trained across projects nationwide, enable machines to execute tasks with expert-level quality and nuance.

Real-time intelligence — Live progress and performance metrics allow contractors to keep critical projects on schedule.

LEADERSHIP

Bedrock Robotics is led by technologists and operators with deep experience scaling breakthrough autonomous systems.

The founding team includes three former Waymo engineering leaders — CEO Boris Sofman, CTO Kevin Peterson, and VP Engineering Ajay Gummalla — who helped pioneer the deployment of fully autonomous vehicles on public roads. A fourth co-founder, VP Engineering Tom Eliaz, previously helped scale Segment’s engineering systems through its $3.2 billion acquisition by Twilio.
